Medicine

Medicines could represent the greatest loss in the coming collapse. Many of our most powerful medicinal products are chemically produced in large facilities; however it must never be forgotten that the first antibiotics were not products of chemical manufacturing but of biological origin. In the coming collapse and with the loss of large scale production facilities, we will become heavily dependent upon those medicines that are produced by plant and microbial animals because these can be grown at the local level.

As for the other major component of modern medicine, that of surgical procedures, we may be forced to return to the use of technologies that date back to the 1930s and 40s.

As we will discuss later, if we are capable of producing advanced tools, we can maintain surgical procedures. If we maintain a certain level of chemical processing, we can continue to produce first generation anesthetics and antiseptics that were used in the 30s and 40s. If the gamma sources from next generation power plants are used to sterilize water, this will also provide a sterilization process for our medical products.
