Part 6: Necessary Components for Community Sustainability Lighting
When was the last time you flipped on a light switch? Now consider the last time you gave thought to the sciences, technologies and production that went into that simple act of lighting your home. As little as 150 years ago, the light switch and what it does would have been considered pure magic by most individuals. For thousands of years the only thing available was open fire, candles or oil lamps. With the collapsing financial system, what would be required to prevent us from going back to the days of the oil lamp? It would consist of two things, first as stated earlier, delivering electrical power to the home. The second is to create a means of converting that electrical power to illumination. The most logical technology to maintain illumination would be to use fluorescent lights. Even though this technology has been known for 150 years, it is capable of being implemented and manufactured at the local community level. So, in a very real sense, it could be considered one of the first true technologies of the 4th industrial revolution.
