Clothing

Clothing shares one very important characteristic with our modern shelters. If taken care of, it will last a very long time. In a financial crisis, as long as there is adequate clothing already produced when things begin to break down, the production of clothing can be one of the last things to be brought back on line.

As for reestablishing production, it, unlike most of what is being discussed here, is a technology that goes back thousands of years. And for a community that is maintaining such things as electrical power and next generation material production, for example aluminum and steel through electrical means, it will not be a difficult thing to reestablish.

A few electrical motors, some intricate parts manufactured through next generation material processing and cloth production will be back on line. The biggest issue will be the acquisition of fiber to make the cloth. However, even this is not a technology beyond reach for a local community with advanced technologies at its disposal.
