Part 6: Necessary Components for Community Sustainability Chemical Processing Essentially, our acquisition of our core materials becomes a chemical process. Organic chemistry is the only other major chemical industry that needs to be preserved. But if you have adequate supplies of steel and aluminum and the ability to process those materials into any shape that you require, your local communities will be capable of producing at least the critical organic compounds necessary to maintain advanced civilization. These organic compounds include but are not limited to a range of plastics. But if we suffer a severe economic downturn, local communities may be forced to return to the levels of organic chemical processing seen in the late 1930s and early 40s. However, these products will be adequate for the rebuilding of next generation equipment.
